The Zero Calibration function allows you to press to set to zero at any position to measure the next section.

The Auto Shut-Off feature turns off the device after about 6 minutes of inactive operation, saving battery life. If you find the readings are not accurate, simply slide the LCD screen to the left end ("0" on the scale) and press the zero button.
